Speak to the Heart of Jerusalem

For out of Zion shall go forth the Law, and the Word of the Lord from Jerusalem

The Bible Society in Israel

Strategically located in the heart of Jerusalem, on the border between the Old City and the New City, we strive to make the Word of God available, accessible, and heard to her own people as well as to her many visitors.

We invite you to come and visit our beautiful Bible exhibition and Bible book store on Jaffa Road 17, Jerusalem. We prefer to meet you in person, but until then, please take our Virtual Tours.

The Bible exhibition and media center

The Bible Experience in Jerusalem exhibition was officially opened in March 2000. It tells the fascinating story of how the Bible came to us. The exhibit takes visitors through three stages of the development of the Bible:

1) The development of the Biblical languages, Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek.

2) Display of materials used in recording, preserving, and transmitting the Word of God from generation to generation (stone, ceramic, papyrus, and skin scroll manuscripts).

3) The industrialization of printing from the time when the Gutenberg press was first used to print the Latin Bible

up to the new technology of today.

An integral part of the exhibit is a display of facsimiles of the most ancient known Bibles (such as the Aleppo and Sinaiticus Codices, or bound books). Also on display are the first Bibles published in various languages.

The exhibition includes a media center, where visitors can enjoy films

explaining how the Bible came to us and other Bible related topics.

kidsinmuseumAmong other items, the exhibition also contains copies of the earliest text from the New Testament on papyrus and the oldest known Book of Esther on papyrus in Greek. A full-size replica of the first Gutenberg printing press is on display, along with Bibles printed on that press.

A unique feature of the exhibit is the floor to ceiling glass "tubes" that encase some of the displays. The idea for this came from a vision symbolizing how the message of salvation found in God's Word can take us from earth to heaven.

Many visitors have said that they appreciate the exhibit not only because it is aesthetically attractive but also from an educational point of view.

Our bookshops

virtour1

Our centrally located bookshops on Jaffa Road in Jerusalem and on Ben Yehuda Street in Tel Aviv, and our network of distributors and vendors throughout Israel help us make the Bible known and available throughout Israel. These bookshops are one of our most fantastic opportunities, and our most fantastic expense! From a commercial point of view, both should be shut down. From a spiritual point of view, these bookshops are the only way we can accomplish our mission of making God's Word available, understandable, and affordable.

For us, the name "bookshop" means much more than a place where books are sold. It is a place of everyday miracles! We provide people with life-changing content – the Word of God. For many people, the Bible Society book stores also provide a warm welcome, good advice, encouragement, prayer for a specific need, as well as practical support for ministry and service.

Through our two central locations in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, many local Israelis as well as refugees, migrants, and tourists from all over the world can find Bibles in fifty different languages, as well as Christian study materials for the growth of the believing body.

Every day opportunities present themselves for one-on-one evangelism and distributing the Word of God. The hunger for the Word has increased, and more Israelis, as well as migrants and refugees, are coming in to ask questions.

The presence of these two stores in Israel’s most populous cities is vital. Despite the harsh realities of life here, more and more people look for meaning and hope, and we feel that the time of harvest is coming. Please pray for the people that the Lord sends to our stores and for this ongoing ministry.
